The 6th annual Houses of Parliament Upper GI research day was hosted by the surgical team at St Thomas’. Once again there was an excellent turnout from South East London and Kent, consisting of surgeons, anaesthetists, oncologists, gastroenterologists, dietitians, physiotherapists and nurse specialists amongst others. Additionally we welcomed surgeons and oncologists from outside the region who made a great effort to attend. The Guest speaker John Reynolds gave a fascinating talk on the current controversies about neo-adjuvant treatment (chemotherapy vs chemoradiotherapy) as well as identifying responders to neo-adjuvant treatment. Mark Hill and Asad Qureshi updated us on the roles of definitive chemoradiation and the potential for future targeted therapies. Last, but by no means least, we had two outstanding talks from Gemma Tham and Christina Iezzi on physiotherapy and Speech & Language therapy (respectively)  in oesophagectomy patients. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and we are grateful to Ethicon / Johnson&Johnson for their support of the meeting.
